Range Working Bee
24 October 2004
This day was a trial for the concept of a combined working bee and range meeting. Postponed from an earlier date because people "forgot it was on", we ended up getting a useful number of willing hands, and much was done, including putting in 15 posts for the new flag poles, grass mowing, and cleaning up the felled pines. And because the meeting was not rushed, some "quality legislation" was passed.
Graham King was asked to drill the post-holes with his tractor, which he achieved in a very short time (ably assisted by Bill). Then Graham came back with his back-hoe to tidy up some bushes and scrub. He saved us much of time and effort and was thanked by all.
When it came to ramming the posts, machinery gave way to manual effort. Geoff, Tat and Bruce did the lions share of the yakka here.
Of course, you can't keep working when a photo opportunity presents itself.
Immediately after this was taken, Noel had a close shave with the toilet block.
Bill started telling jokes about sheep and the war, and Alan and Richard split their sides laughing.
The quarterly meeting was held after lunch. The highlight was a poetry reading from Noel.
We had a discussion about sponsorship. Bill suggested we approach CUB, then diligently set about supporting their product.
Congratulations to Keith who was there in the morning but managed to avoid our roving photographer, Margaret.
